Sleepy? I don't think so.

I will always remember the day that I sat down to do homework and Rugby (at 1 year of age) voluntarily joined me on the couch for a nap. Ahh. One giant leap away puppy-hood. We worked hard to get to that point, spending endless hours doing the Long Down exercise. I cherish the fact that if I have work to do, or a movie to watch Rugby will remain quietly at my side waiting for our next activity instead of running circles around the room. It is just plain annoying to have a dog that won't sit still.

That is why it has been frustrating this week to hear from my own family, "awww, look how tired he is!" This isn't the first time that Rugby's good behavior has been mistaken for a drained physical state, but this is the first time it has bothered  me.

What is it about a well mannered dog that makes people think that if they are relatively still for any amount of time, that they are drugged or exhausted?

  1. People think that about Koira, too. She is great when we go places, because if I want to stand and talk to someone, or look at something, etc, she will lay down and wait for me to be ready to move on. She always has done this, pretty naturally. But give her a chance to play, and she is all for it. She is just well behaved, not tired!

  2. I don't know the answer but he looks peppy enough to me. He's just chillin' until the next activity.

    Great photo.

  5. Have to admit that neither of our dogs were very calm when they were younger. They were and are pretty high powered. But as they have gotten older they are better about just hanging out and having down time. I think most dogs enjoy the down time as they get older.

  6. I'm THAT annoying dog that you speak of. :D:D I run in circles all the time! I am my humans' first pug puppy so I think they still find it funny and cute. I'm sure I'll tire them out soon.
